Symptoms of kidney disease
Symptoms of kidney disease vary from person to person. Much depends on the type and severity of the disease. The symptoms are often vague but require special attention. Therefore, it is difficult to diagnose the disease in the early stages and reach a conclusion.
Common symptoms of kidney disease:
• Facial swelling
One of the hallmarks of kidney disease is swelling, which usually starts on the lower side of one eyelid. (This is called periorbital swelling) and is most noticeable in the morning. A symptom of swelling of the face, abdomen and legs is frequent occurrence of kidney disease.
Inflammation is the first symptom of kidney damage and impotence. But we must remember that any inflammation that occurs in a person does not indicate kidney failure. In some kidney diseases, inflammation still occurs despite normal kidney function (eg, nephrotic syndrome). Equally important is the fact that inflammation may not be seen in some patients despite significant renal dysfunction.
• Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting
Loss of appetite, bad taste in the mouth and decreased food intake are common problems experienced by a person with kidney problems. As renal dysfunction worsens, the accumulation of toxic substances and loss of capacity increase. This includes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
• High blood pressure
High blood pressure is common in patients with kidney failure or impairment or damage. If high blood pressure occurs at a young age (under 30 years of age) or if blood pressure is very high at the time of diagnosis, the cause may be kidney disease.
